(born August 23, 1805, died May 23, 1893), Austrian politician and statesman, among others Attorney General (1848-1851), State Minister (1861-1865) and President of the Supreme Court (1865-1893). He was designated honorary citizen of the city of Šumperk on November 12, 1886. On November 21 of the same year Schmerling sent a votive letter to the mayor of Šumperk, Mr. Friedrich Tersch.
