History of the village [ History ]

About a territory of today's Spálov region is the first mention to be found in Latin gift certificate from 1169, concerning frontiers and range of territory of the demense of Hranice that reached from the stream Žabník (west of Drahotuše) till to the stream Odra. The certificate is however forged and about half a century younger so that he realizes situation approximately about beginning of the 13th century. At the end of the 14th century Spálov was a part of the demense of Potštat. Round 1560 a parish school was established here. On 8th November 1620 there is datation of the battle of White mountain (Bílá Hora) near to Prague in which participated on the side of estates Kristina of Rog, on winning side of emperor the later owner of estate Spálov Colonel Johann Gottfied Breiner. Spálov's manor (then fortress), church and hamlet were despoiled by Poles who went to help to emperor's army. At the map drawed by J. A. Comenius in 1627 Spálov (Span) is signed as a parish village with fortress (manor). In 1650 a half of the demense of Spálov devolved to convent Celestial gate in Vienna. One of the first brick peasant grounds was in Spálov built in 1790, since that time all the grounds were made of wood. In 1948 there were in Spálov already only 4 wooden grounds. In 1827 there was on the village green built a new school that later served as a village house and its shed as a village round-house. Later there was in the building established a village library and after building of storeys and reparation there is in the building health centre. On 21st November 1832 Spálov was promoted to a market-town (market town) with a right of two anniversaries and cattle markets. In 1869 there was in Spálov established and open s. k. post office. At the beginning of 20th century there appear in Spálov attempts to buy a piece of land for building of German school. On 28th October 1918 when the independent Czechoslovak state was declared, the village had to fight with the efforts of surrounding Germans to connect Spálov region toĘSudetenland, to Altvaterland. An important period in development of the village was turn of the 20th and 30th years of the 20th century when a private personal bus transport on the route Spálov - Jindřichov - Hranice was initiated, steam saw-mill of Ladislav Demel a spol. was built and building of colony of workmen houses at Tomanov region was started. On 10th October 1938 Spálov was occupied by German army, detached from Moravia and connected to Sudetenland (to Sudet).
